Whether you are preparing to interview a candidate or applying for a job, below is a fairly standard list of questions of Marketing Director Interview Questions.
But my favorite one of all times is this one:
– So, you did quite well in your previous job, didn’t you?
– Yes.
– So, can you quickly implement the same marketing mix for us as well? We need a spike is sales asap?
Now, if the guy (or gal) says here “Sure” – I (GRIN tech’s founder & CEO) just go for interviewing the next candidate, because one can’t simply “do the same thing”. Marketing mix might be the same (e.g. PPC and SEO) but everything still requires tuning (read – hypothesis testing & processes setup) even for companies within the same industry.
Alright, let’s dig into other questions.

To sup it up on marketing director interview questions
Personally, I think a classic interview approach with all these questions and HR things work for the enterprise sector and companies with more than 3 layers of management but are quite outdated for smaller companies.
At GRIN tech the hiring process is basically just two steps:
- Small talk
- Paid, real*, doable in a day or two task
* like, why would you pay to solve some non-existent task, when you have a lot of jobs on the list? Just run a test on a real article from the content plan, or give a real feature request.
What if you are an employee here? Just ask for a paid week test-drive to see if you fit the company, its culture, and people.
