SugarCRM 01
In the past I would point you to SugarCRM Community Edition, but it was discontinued in 2017. You still can download it, but may require some work from your side. It may give you an idea behind CRM systems and break down you idea to maybe more suitable solutions.

SugarCRM ? We used it in my previous company and it worked well enough. Dont know FreshSales enough to compare.

Yup! My company built one for SugarCRM although it was more designed for existing sugar users. Its about to become publicly available but I’m not sure what you’re budget might be. Our product does full workflow triggering and bulk sending of Twilio messages. Since it’s a CRM it also does one offs as well.

SuiteCRM is open source and free, it’s a fork of the popular SugarCRM software. You can install it on your own server pretty easily.
I’ve been using it for years, it’s great for most traditional CRM needs. The only area it’s a bit weak in is ticket tracking. It has a ticket system (named ‘Cases’) but if you’re providing any sort of helpdesk support Request Tracker is a better app for that specific task.

Honestly, it sounds like you just need a simple CRM. Something where you can quickly add a customer’s data, add tickets for whenever they come in, and maybe track how long/much a task costs. Most CRMs will offer these out of the box along with a pretty basic work tracking system. There’s a handful you can look at:
SugarCRM – The original, but they stopped doing open source releases 3 years ago

try eating the SugarCRM d!ck, where they use ccs to not even let you highlight, copy, and paste text, from their developer support site. its like super cancer + super aids. disclaimer: its not my choice to code against sugarcrm (php/js/etc), i just unfuck offshore ppls crap.

SugarCRM does have basic project management as does Odoo . Both are open source and are available both in cloud and on premise, like Bitrix24. I am not familiar if Sugar and Odoo projects have Gantt natively, but since both have extensive developer communities around them, I would not be surprised that Gantt plugin exists. Feel free to explore on your own

Are you looking for personal use?
If not, we use and I personally like SugarCRM: easy to navigate and customize, and set up a cadence, etc.
If personal, I used Ryze as personal CRM tool to keep up with my network and stuff.

you will not find any free solution to address both sales and field service needs. the field service part is the complicated one because you need to schedule your staff and ensure that they are utilized correctly.
Zoho , Salesforce and sugarcrm all have extensions that help in this area. but you have to pay.

Thanks but I am a bit confused. From what I saw SugarCRM was fairly pricey compared to competition.

I’ve hear that SugarCRM was okay but a bit clunky. Good to know that there’s anther CRM our there that took it’s place as an open source system. Thanks for the advice!

SugarCRM looks cool, but since we have a pretty good server set up with great IT support, I’m hoping to find a free open-source self-hosted solution.

SugarCRM and SuiteCRM are pretty modular, so while it may be overkill to use the whole thing for what you need, you can disable individual components until it only works for your needs. I once had a client that used the expensive SugarCRM just for a single module. It was a huge waste of money for them and we told them as such, but they stuck with it.

I have installed sugarcrm comumity edition for two of my customers a year ago or so, I didn’t really understand the greatness of that software – but both of them seem to like it very much and still use it a lot.
My observation from a little distance is that introduction of crm requires a person with business credentials to do the proselytizing, it also helps a lot if the same person can do basic customization using the web-gui, aka “studio” and enough knowledge+budget to hire someone for the customizations that requires coding to make the crm system fit your use case / process.
Other than those two encounters where I could observe the deployment up close with sugarcrm I’m pretty clueless about the different crm systems available.
I saw many technical weaknesses in sugarcrm so really hope there’s better options available.
I ended up having to install mule esb at both sites so they could get decent interaction between sugar and other systems they already used for other business purposes.

Similar, except Sugar is open source so you can fully customize it, whereas Salesforce is proprietary and customization and development are limited to their available framework.

SugarCRM has flexible deployment options. When you subscribe, you can use SugarCRM’s hosted platform which is included in your subscription. However, you can also host with a Sugar Partner, your own cloud or on any hosted server that you like.

SugarCRM Community Edition was good once upon a time, but as Cerothen said, it went closed source, and it’s been end-of-life for at least a year now.

“Let me start by saying that SugarCRM takes product and IT security very seriously and has enjoyed a long and productive history of working with the security community.”
The standard “We know we fucked up, but we will now proceed to straight up lie” intro sentence.

Great writeup. I know a few companies that have used SugarCRM over the years. It is scary how embedded PHP serialization is with it.

The SugarCRM administration panel has a button labeled “remove XSS”. I have a picture of it up in my house.
Yes. A button that attempts to remove XSS payloads from the database that admins can click. That’s the level of security competence we are talking about here.

v0.1.5.1
GRIN games emerged
As a web agency we never could and never will be able to escape the urge of building things.
Among million other things we played with an idea of text-based games and the last piece that was missing
was the story itself. So via in-house outreach platform we found two
established writers that believed in the project and agreed to participate.
Shout out to Richard Abbott who wrote Fraud on Thetis and Eva Pohler who sent us a huge draft we are still reading through.
v0.1.4
GRIN launcher is born.
It is an outreach platform that we use to establish connections with editorial teams.
They say samples of published articles look good
but pricing looks even better
At some point we realised that list building, fetching contact details & outreach tech work just as well for b2b lead generation
v0.1.3
Once, we fell in love with ecommerce, because of short feedback cycles on marketing & development efforts.
Today we ship into production
inhouse SaaS project - AVOKADO - the web
app for learning languages with flash cards.
The year after we built it we realised how long is the road map ahead & what resources we'd need to promote it and decided to put it on hold.
One day as we ship GRIN tech v3.0 into production we'll distrupt the language learning market with Avokado.
We love Wordpress and recently shipped two plugins into open beta for commercial sale.
v0.1.2.2 King The Monk - wordpress plugin to virally grow your email list
v0.1.2.1 Plain Conversions - wordpress plugin to convert your visitors
v0.1.1. Expanded core offering to visual productions
v0.1
It's Autumn 2017 and GRIN tech agency's website is born.
We have it saved for the history.
