Hivelocity 02
If you don’t want to deal with the upfront costs – Hivelocity has some ready to go Epyc server configs to rent. We recently rented two of them for virtualization and heavy database I/O workloads and are a dream – also TCO is technically less than from Dell or HP because I don’t need to worry about any bad hardware (they take care of and monitor that).

A growing business needs optimal server performance and flexible hosting capabilities. Hivelostity strives to provide precisely such solutions for dedicated server hosting.
From instant setup to individual servers, Hivelosity promises to provide the right solution for every business.
In this review of Hivelocity, we have tested how good a provider is.
Hivelocity Review: Background
Hivelocity is an American hosting provider specializing in dedicated and cloud hosting for medium and large projects. As for hosting of dedicated servers, you have two options – instantly deploy an already configured server or configure it according to your own needs.
But even for instant deployment servers, Hivelocity has almost 30 options. And that’s the main reason why companies like SpaceX and Volvo choose Hivelocity – it just provides the flexibility you need for growing business needs.
Since its launch in 2001, with only one server, the company has 60,000 square feet of data centers scattered throughout the U.S.
Hivelocity Pricing Review
Hivelocity has 27 Instant Deployment Server options and more than 1000 hardware options to create your server at a price from $105 per month. Hivelocity price for the three most favored dedicated server options starts at $99 per month.
With each selected server, you will get a secure DDoS network, private LAN and backup, 10GB cloud storage, and network-level intrusion detection system.
- The $105 quad-core Kabylake Xeon server will receive 16GB of RAM, 480GB of storage, 20TB of bandwidth, and a 3.5 GHz processor for a month.
- The Kabylake Xeon 6-core server will receive 32GB of RAM, 480GB of disk space, 20TB of bandwidth, and a 3.3GHz processor for $130 per month.
- A $159/month Dual Haswell Xeon Configurable 8-core server will provide you with at least 64 GB RAM, 480 GB of disk space, 20 GB of bandwidth, and a 2.9 GHz processor.
The overall pricing structure is clear – you get what you pay for.
Prices do not go up after the upgrade, so you do not have to jump through hoops to save some money. You also get 24/7 support, IPv6, 99.999% SLA and peering with AWS, Microsoft, or Google.
You have four add-ons to choose from: hardware firewall, daily backup, cloud storage, and data migration. That costs an extra few dollars to hundreds of dollars per month. The only free add-on is the data migration option.
To help you make a decision (if any), we’ve put all 27 Hivelocity servers into several pricing categories:
Pricing Category | RAM | Storage | Bandwidth |
$99 – $150 | 16 – 32GB | 240 – 960GB | 20TB |
$150 – $200 | 32 – 64GB | ~960GB | 20 – 100TB |
$200 – $400 | 32 – 64GB | 960GB – 2TB | 100TB |
>$400 | 64 – 128GB | 960GB – 4TB | 100TB to unmetered |
Besides, Hivelocity promises that your dedicated server will be ready for use 7 minutes after purchase.
It may take up to 24 hours, get your custom servers up and running. However, by choosing the built-in server, you can save a couple of dollars.
If none of the pre-built servers offer an optimal solution, you can build your own.
Hivelocity prices are clear and straightforward; you pay for what you need. Add extra security, decent plans, and you get a deal.
Hivelocity Features Review
Besides providing robust dedicated server solutions, Hivelocity offers other services to improve your servers.
Content Delivery Network (CDN)
The content delivery network serves several different purposes. The two most essential functions are improved security and faster loading of pages.
Besides, you can get as close to your audience as possible, which is equivalent to faster page loading.
You can also get better protection against DDoS in the enterprise for $15 per month.
Additional features of the Hivelocity CDN include geoblocking, caching, and instant content removal.
SSL Certificates
There are many hosting providers of dedicated servers that do not offer SSL certificates for their clients.
But with Hivelocity, you can get any type of SSL certification – single domain, organization, wild card, etc.
The price starts from $9.95/year for Comodo SSL, $119/year for PositiveSSL Wildcard certificate, and $49/year for Comodo InstantSSL.
Backup services
Hivelocity does not include backups in its hosting packages. However, you can purchase them separately. With Hivelocity, your backups are stored in Colo-Cloud, and you can buy up to 8 TB of storage to keep your backups safe. Of course, this will cost you $479 per month.
The starting price is $29 per month for 500GB and includes online and offline backups for any server or device as well as recovery services.
With Hivelocity, you get the most critical security and performance features in one place.
Support for Hivelocity
If you have any problems, you can use 24/7 customer support. Technical support is available via chat, email, or phone. For this, you get two phone numbers, one toll-free and one local number.
The billing department is only available on weekdays from 9 am to 5 pm, and the sales support team is available on weekdays from 9 am to 10 pm and on weekends from 9 am to 5 pm.
We did a little testing of the Live Chat, and while the sales team was offline, technical support responded immediately. Our questions were resolved in a short time, and our support agent was friendly and patient with us.
A standard knowledge base is available. Everything is grouped into easy to navigate categories from SSH to Direct Admin articles.
And some of them even have videos for more viewers.
Hivelocity offers 24/7 support that won’t keep you waiting and is very friendly.
Hivelocity Performance Review
There is a 99.999% uptime guarantee, and those are not just words.
We installed WordPress on our test site, ran it for a month, and got great results. Our site had no downtime and showed a 100% uptime rate.
Our average response time was only 155 ms, and sometimes 119 ms.
That is really blazing speed, and even the most significant jump in performance was only 381ms.
It took us 1.5 seconds to fully load our page, although not the ideal time, but still faster than most ISPs.
In optimizations, GTmetrix gave us both A’s on PageSpeed(96%) and YSlow(91%). Everything that could be done on the provider’s side was optimized correctly.
We can expect stable performance and fast response time from Hivelocity.
Hivelocity Review: Pros
- Fast delivery: You can purchase a dedicated server and run it in less than 7 minutes. For custom servers, the waiting time will not exceed 24 hours.
- Excellent response time: High-speed server response time even with the cheapest server, on average 155 msec, worldwide.
- No upgrade: No hidden fees, no sales attempts, or extra-high upgrade prices.
- 24/7 customer support.
- Good uptime: During our testing, Hivelocity averaged 100% uptime, with decent stability throughout the entire time.
Hivelocity Review: Cons
- Not suitable for small businesses: the price is too high to run a simple blog on a dedicated server. Hivelocity specializes in enterprise-level companies.
- Made for developers: it is designed with more high-tech users in mind, but they have a management option that starts at $35/mo.
Hivelocity Review Summary
As we have learned from this Hivelocity Review, it targets enterprise-level companies with fast, reliable, and flexible hosting solutions.
But this flexibility and speed are expensive, and you need to be a more technologically advanced user. So if you have your development team – try Hivelocity.
Pros
- Fast delivery
- Excellent response time.
- Not for sale.
- Round-the-clock customer support
- Good uptime
Cons
- Not suitable for small business
- Made for developers.

GRIN games emerged
As a web agency we never could and never will be able to escape the urge of building things.
Among million other things we played with an idea of text-based games and the last piece that was missing
was the story itself. So via in-house outreach platform we found two
established writers that believed in the project and agreed to participate.
Shout out to Richard Abbott who wrote Fraud on Thetis and Eva Pohler who sent us a huge draft we are still reading through.
v0.1.4
GRIN launcher is born.
It is an outreach platform that we use to establish connections with editorial teams.
They say samples of published articles look good
but pricing looks even better
At some point we realised that list building, fetching contact details & outreach tech work just as well for b2b lead generation
v0.1.3
Once, we fell in love with ecommerce, because of short feedback cycles on marketing & development efforts.
Today we ship into production
inhouse SaaS project - AVOKADO - the web
app for learning languages with flash cards.
The year after we built it we realised how long is the road map ahead & what resources we'd need to promote it and decided to put it on hold.
One day as we ship GRIN tech v3.0 into production we'll distrupt the language learning market with Avokado.
We love Wordpress and recently shipped two plugins into open beta for commercial sale.
v0.1.2.2 King The Monk - wordpress plugin to virally grow your email list
v0.1.2.1 Plain Conversions - wordpress plugin to convert your visitors
