Odoo is just great! Its is very user friendly, extremely flexible, and ideal for SMEs. In addition, its price is very reasonable compared to the other big names.

ERP – enterprise resource planning. I like Odoo or OpenERP, open source and widely used. This is business management software designed to meet the needs of a small business. ERP software integrates all facets of an operation, including finance/accounting, development, manufacturing, and sales / marketing.

I’m familiar with odoo, and the first roadblock in selling, is making sure the person understands the value of an ERP system. In the realm of small business the people who intrinsically understand this are much smaller than in larger organizations. However the one thing you do have is that it’s open source and free to use and customize especially since they have an App Store that can help tailor the system to an industry.
Since it’s open source I think the best sales strategy would be a freemium model where if you have the time, you help them install the product and leave them be. Then see who wants to hear more or see what confuses people so you can sell the service better next time

In the opensource arena there is Odoo. Its a CRM and collaboration suite that you can build on top of. Has lots of modules and can actually do help-desk, eCommerce, point of sale and lots of other things. If it does what you want its good. If it doesn’t it can be a massive learning curve to extend. Built in Python.

Odoo is really expensive for the commercial version – $92 per month per user for the options I need (community version lacks full accounting, plus marketing automation and a few other keys, although most of it is still there). There are other non-critical “nice to have” modules that I wouldn’t buy because the pricing is already too steep.
It doesn’t seem possible to split out the licensing for different users, with restricted views by login – e.g. Sales staff don’t need Accounting or Manufacturing, and head office staff don’t need Sales. My first goal is 10 sales staff and 2 administrators, so that’s 13 licenses. It will get really steep, I think.

You could check out Odoo. It has modules for inventory management and web store (and a bunch of other stuff). The inventory structure has “variants”, which it’s a general attribute that can have multiple values. It could map really well to Color or Size.
You can get it in a docker container, or Digital Ocean has an Odoo droplet. I think you can even fiddle around with a demo on their website.

We are in the midst of switching to Odoo within the next year.I received a brief training on it simply for the sales end and it doesn’t look like that bad of a system. You can use it for sales, sending invoices and accounting, marking and email blasts, and many more features. If looking to have one software for all processes, it looks like a really good system. It’s open source so you can make it what you want it to be. If you don’t have the time to designated a bunch of time to it you can find a local company that can assist with the switch from your old CRM. You can find webinars on YouTube that will go over various features and modules.

I believe Odoo also includes eCommerce, so you may go without Magento. Probably. What I have found annoying in Odoo is their pretty complicated pricing.

Throwing CRM into the mix makes for a bizarre combo, but I was going to say odoo, because it is a full-on ERP system. We are currently implementing odoo enterprise at my company. I wanted to use stripe with odoo, but it requires customers to have a portal login vs. the ability to create unique links in FusionInvoice. We use FusionInvoice right now with stripe, it doesn’t really do CRM, open-source PHP, but not free. It is cheap (even for a sole-proprietor) and crazy-easy to use for you and your customers, you can enter invoices and it will generate an e-mail (customizable) to your customers with a unique link that shows their invoice on a very simple and easy UI, you can configure it to send approaching due date notifications and overdue notifications.

Odoo looks nice, but the community edition seems to be missing a lot of the nicer features.

Community edition lacks a ton of features. I don’t think i can pull it off with odoo.

Odoo is nice, but you may have a problem of opposite extremes (very limited -> too many extra features) as it’s a full blown enterprise resource planning tool. It’s really nice though and hooking it up to FreeIPA isn’t too hard.

I used to work as an odoo dev and I do actually recommend it. Very flexible and for very small development time you can modify it to your liking. Lots of excellent community modules

I looked at that, and really liked it… but then found out they’re doing the whole “Enterprise edition” vrs “Community Edition” thing. With the community addition being intentionally crippled to drive clients into the Enterprise edition. Which… ok, I get it, they’re a business. The problem with that setup though, is that in nearly every example I’ve seen, profit motives eventually lead to the vendor abandoning the community edition and force everyone into the cloud. That would lead to me having to move the project to another product yet again. The data needs to stay local. 🙁

Look into Odoo CRM – pretty affordable to do it and better than most free CRMs that you would get.

+1 for Odoo, I’ve set this up for a friend’s business and it has been unreal. Still waiting for the catch.

Odoo definitely fits what you need.
You can use the Contacts app to store the various companies you interact with and their employees, the CRM app can be automated via emails (An email creates a new lead in your CRM, linked to the relevant contact) and you can follow conversations, set TODOs/Next Actions or leave internal notes via the Chatter.
Depending on what you need, you can even link the CRM to the Inventory app and, with some custom module, handle your review products (what needs to be returned, when, to whom, etc).
Community (the free, open part) should be more than enough for what you want to do. Look at the OCA for some cool additional open source modules.

I´ve been testing Odoo for the last couple of weeks. At first glance it seems complete and robust, nevertheless, when you start requiring some customization and editing, it becomes a tedious and cumbersome task. If you can work with everything out of the box, then it´s great, but once you need modeling and some development, it becomes difficult.

Commenting just to follow as well. I found Odoo while looking to replac my companies CRM, and fell in love with the idea of having everything all in one, but unfortunately I do not control our ERP system as well (and it totally sucks and they just keep upgrading it rather than replacing)

Odoo CRM is not ideal for an organization of your size. Avoid it if you don’t have strong and experienced developers in your team ( very complicated to customize Odoo’s workflow). Another big issue is that they up charge you for apps related to integration, accounting, invoicing, etc. If I were you, I would think twice before going with Odoo. Hope that helps.

Changelog – pre-ecosystem era

v0.1.8 Hound @ apps.the.gt – b2b prospecting platform

v0.1.8.1 Business directory – content experiment to support b2b prospecting platform.

v0.1.6 GRIN tech affiliate program is live.

v0.1.5.2 Working on cool in-house lead gen project - Art Director is preparing 100 picks of Business Cards in various niches.

v0.1.5.1 GRIN games emerged

As a web agency we never could and never will be able to escape the urge of building things.
Among million other things we played with an idea of text-based games and the last piece that was missing was the story itself. So via in-house outreach platform we found two established writers that believed in the project and agreed to participate.

Shout out to Richard Abbott who wrote Fraud on Thetis and Eva Pohler who sent us a huge draft we are still reading through.

v0.1.4 GRIN launcher is born.
It is an outreach platform that we use to establish connections with editorial teams.
They say samples of published articles look good but pricing looks even better

At some point we realised that list building, fetching contact details & outreach tech work just as well for b2b lead generation

v0.1.3 Once, we fell in love with ecommerce, because of short feedback cycles on marketing & development efforts.
Today we ship into production inhouse SaaS project - AVOKADO - the web app for learning languages with flash cards.

The year after we built it we realised how long is the road map ahead & what resources we'd need to promote it and decided to put it on hold.

One day as we ship GRIN tech v3.0 into production we'll distrupt the language learning market with Avokado.

We love Wordpress and recently shipped two plugins into open beta for commercial sale.

v0.1.2.2 King The Monk - wordpress plugin to virally grow your email list

v0.1.2.1 Plain Conversions - wordpress plugin to convert your visitors

v0.1.1. Expanded core offering to visual productions

v0.1 It's Autumn 2017 and GRIN tech agency's website is born.
We have it saved for the history.
